Not every day you see a jet temp gauge reading to 800 deg in a car, or a rev counter reading to 60,000 (I'm told: we can only see 60).

Not every day you see a car with no heating or ventilation controls either though.

I bet that with the heat-soak from that exhaust, there'd be no need for a heater, even on the chilliest days!

Looks like one of Rover's P6 gas turbine prototypes. I remember seeing the gas turbine power plant from one of them in a museum – it's amazing how compact it was. No wonder they had trouble shoehorning anything else into that engine bay!

Last time I was in the UK, I saw JET 1 on display at the Science Museum in London. Fantastic piece of history, that. It's interesting how Rover, despite their staid image, were really pushing the boundaries of automotive technologies.

There's a copy of the only road test here of the racer and they mention the heat soak into the cockpit. Cold floor but hot seats!

Rover made production versions of the gas turbine for use as APUs.
